plenty of reactionary/redneck ignorants here too, probably less than in the states and certainly less outspoken, most conservatives/right wingers here wont even dare admit to their true colours in public. But then again greece is just a miniscule sattelite of u.s. interests both figuratively (i.e. in terms of cultural influence the u.s. has on greece over the past 15 years esp. after the "fall" of communism) and literaly in terms of u.s. direct intervention via military junta for 7 years (u.s. ambassador has publicly admitted that) and thenafter by various plugged in local enterpreneurs, goverment and media people.
However greece has a long history and civilization, and a long history of dicent and struggle against dictators of all sorts, turks, germans in ww 1 and 2, no hands down to the germans over here as in france, so all in all the level of political consciousness here is admittedly higher than (what i imagine is) the average reactiory/mac donalds/movies/coca cola/turn a buck american consumer, but nothing to write home about.
Dont want to sound to pessimistic or elitist here, but day by day i find that there are more and more pigs or sheep to be brought to the slaughter.
